European Championship
Spain 2 -
Ukraine 2 (Spain win 4-1 on penalties)
Spain are through to
the European final after beating Ukraine 4-1 in the penalty shoot out.
The youngsters took the lead early on when Víctor headed home Silva's
free kick, but Aliyev levelled the scores with a second half free kick to send
the game into extra time. Soldado thought he had won it when he ran the ball
into the empty net after a mistake by the otherwise superb keeper Shust, but
Yatsenko headed another equaliser near the end to take the match to penalties.
Spain's nerve held though, and after Chygrynskiy shot wide and Ribas saved from
Kravtchenko, Rubén crashed home the winning kick to set up a final next
Saturday against Turkey. (21.07.04) |
