Atlético Madrid
bounced back from their disastrous second leg in the last round to beat OFK
Belgrade 1-3 and virtually ensure their place in the final. César
Ferrando drafted in new signing Colsa, who had just returned after loan periods
at Valladolid and Mallorca, and also gave the striker's shirt to Fernando
Torres even though he has only just returned from his vacations after Euro
2004. Colsa in particular was in great form, and was unlucky to have a goal
disallowed in the twelfth minute. But a few minutes later Ibagaza opened the
scoring when he beat Damjanac with a well struck free kick.
Fernando Torres made it two
from the penalty spot just before the break after the referee ruled rather
harshly that he had been fouled in the area, and Atlético appeared to be
cruising. But Simic got a goal back a few minutes after the restart, and
Mrdakovic should have levelled the scores when he rounded Leo Franco but
couldn't hit the target. That woke up the Spaniards, and they restored the two
goal lead when Colsa sent Ibagaza away for him to find Simeone with a deep
cross. Paunovic should have got a fourth a few minutes later, but his side had
done enough and if they don't produce another performance like the one at the
weekend, they should be in line for the final. |
