Barcelona made it eight
straight wins in a row after beating Michael Laudrup's Brondby in the Nou Camp.
The Catalans were in control throughout, and although they didn't create too
many early chances, Saviola found Luis García on the half hour mark for
him to build on the one goal lead from the first leg. Cocu made it two before
the break with a header from Van Bronckhorst's corner, and the Catalans could
have scored a third with a quick breakaway between Ronaldinho and Saviola which
ended with Luis García's shot being saved by Moroccan keeper Zaza.
Rijkaard rested his key
players in the second half, but Luis García and Saviola both had chances
to score again as the game wore on. Eventually though the Blaugrana eased off
the gas, and shortly after Jonson had en effort well saved by Víctor
Valdés, Nielsen headed a corner between the Xavi and the far post for a
late consolation goal. Saviola, Gabri and Overmars all had cracks at the target
in the last few seconds, but by then the game was over and many fans had
started to make their way home. |
