Mallorca bounced back from
their heavy defeat at home to Valencia, winning 1-2 in this first leg tie to
take a big step towards reaching the third round. It was at times a bit of a
struggle though, and the intense cold at the Parken stadium seemed to freeze
their ideas at first. Only Leo Franco saved them early on, keeping out an
effort from Bergvold before the Spaniards took the lead on virtually their
first attack of the game, Albrechtsen turning Nené's cross past his own
keeper.
The Danish defender made up
for his mistake though four minutes later when he headed an equaliser past
Franco, and Mallorca were unlucky not to be behind at the break after the home
side failed to take advantage of a number of chances, Zuma firing an easy shot
over the bar and Franco saving again from Nielsen.
But a Luis Aragonés
pep talk at half time improved things, and after Lussenhoff brought a great
save out of Kihlistedt, Colsa hit the bar on the follow up. As usual
Aragonés made early changes, bringing on Perera for an ineffective
Ligüera and Nagore for Colsa, and shortly after Eto'o replaced Bruggink,
Nagore scored the winner in a goalmouth scramble. It was just what the
Islanders needed, and hopefully the win will revive their fortunes in the
league. |
