Spain's new generation started with a victory in this friendly international, which was played in the Nova Creu Alta stadium in Sabadell. The joint managers Juan Santiestaban and Armando Ufarte based their squad on the under 20 side which ended as runners up to Brazil in the recent youth world cup, with Barcelona's Sergio García and Iniesta leading the attack and Real Madrid's Juanfran playing wide on the right.

The youngsters took control from the start, and went in front on the half hour mark when Iniesta was brought down by Engeldal in the area, the attacking midfielder converting the spot kick himself. And Sergio García got the second just before the break after Larsen mis-kicked a clearance straight at him, the striker lobbing the ball back over the unfortunate keeper's head.

Riise pulled one back for the Scandinavians though two minutes after the restart, nipping in to poke the ball home when Peña tried to chest the ball back to half time substitute keeper Moyà. But after that neither side really threatened to alter the scoreline, the high number of substitutions on both sides breaking up the flow of play.
