Spain 4
- Andorra 0
Spain recorded a
comfortable victory in their only warm-up game prior to the Euro 2004
championships, running out 4-0 winners over neighbours Andorra.
Iñaki Sáez used the occasion to try out all of his squad, putting
out what will probably be his first choice line up at the start, with the
exception of Vicente who was resting an injury. Their opponents put up a good
fight at first though, and it was not until midway through the first half that
Spain finally broke through, Baraja finding Morientes for him to poke a shot
past Koldo. And the second goal didn't come until the stroke of half time when
Raúl was tripped by Txema inside the area, Baraja scoring on the rebound
after the keeper blocked his penalty kick.
Sáez changed almost
all of his line up after the break, giving a run out to Capdevila who had
replaced the injured Salgado in the squad and a first cap to third choice
keeper Aranzubia. Fernando Torres went close two or three times before
César headed a third goal from Xavi's corner, and it was Xavi who found
Valerón in the last minute for him to make it four. Spain's next game
will be on Saturday, when they play Russia on the first day of the
Championships. (05.06.04) |
