Euro 2004
Spanish squad
Iñaki Sáez
ended the speculation today, naming his 23 man squad for the upcoming European
Championships. His choice finally for third goalkeeper was Athletic Bilbao's
Aranzubia, and the surprise if anything was the inclusion of an extra defender,
Juanito, rather than a more attacking player such as Reyes, Guti or Mista. The
full squad is as follows:
Goalkeepers:
Aranzubia (Athletic Bilbao), Casillas (Real Madrid), Cañizares
(Valencia); Defenders: Gabri and Puyol (Barcelona), Juanito (Betis),
César (Deportivo), Iván Helguera, Michel Salgado and Raúl
Bravo (Real Madrid), Marchena (Valencia); Midfielders:
Etxeberría (Athletic Bilbao), Xavi (Barcelona), Joaquín
(Betis), Valerón (Deportivo), Xabi Alonso (Real Sociedad), Albelda,
Baraja and Vicente (Valencia); Forwards: Fernando Torres
(Atlético Madrid), Luque (Deportivo), Morientes (Monaco), Raúl
(Real Madrid).
The squad will convene next
week, and play one friendly game on 5th June against Andorra in Getafe before
going on to Portugal. (20.05.04) |
