Second
division, week 37
Only three points separate
the top five sides after Sunday's games, and it is anybody's guess right now
who will occupy the three promotion spots at the end of the season.
Levante moved back to the top of the table after beating
Salamanca 0-1, Reggi getting the only goal of the game in the second
half. They lead Numancia by two points after the Soria based side were
held to a 1-1 draw by Almería. Alavés stay in third
place, level on points with Numancia, after beating struggling Rayo
Vallecano 3-0 earlier in the day, and Sporting Gijon are a point
behind them after a 4-1 win over Ciudad Murcia, level with Getafe who played
the day before.
The fight to avoid
relegation is also going to be tight, and there are only five points between
tenth placed Tenerife and Poli Ejido, who are currently nineteenth.
Tenerife came from behind to draw 1-1 with Eibar, Keko getting
the goal late on. Córdoba are back in trouble after losing 1-2 to
Andalucian rivals Xerez, and they are only ahead of Ejido and
Leganés thanks to a better goal average. Rayo Vallecano and Las Palmas
are both four points adrift though, and bottom club Algeciras could be
mathematically down next week despite beating Terrassa 2-1 this weekend.

With the top four all
playing on Sunday, Getafe took advantage to move up into the promotion
spots after beating Elche 3-1. Two goals from Pachón helped the
Madrid based side come back from a goal down against their opponents, who fired
manager Oscar Ruggeri after the match as a result. With five games to go
Recreativo Huelva kept their hopes of promotion alive with a 1-0 win
over Poli Ejido. Uche got the only goal to send their rivals down into
the bottom four. Cádiz stayed a point behind Recre after a 4-1
victory over struggling Las Palmas, all four of the home side's goals
coming in the second half after the Canary Islanders had taken the lead. Las
Palmas are now further away from safety after Leganés picked up a
point in a dull 0-0 draw against Málaga B. (15.05.04)
