Spain recorded a comfortable win over Northern Ireland in their last group match to reach the semi-finals of the competition. The hero of the night was Marc Pedraza, who was given his chance in the line up thanks to the injury to first choice striker César. The Espanyol forward completed a hat-trick either side of half time to give his side an unassailable lead, and although Doherty pulled one back later in the second half, Diego Capel finished things off with a fourth goal near the end. Spain finish second in their group behind hosts France, and will play group B winners England in the next round on Wednesday evening. (09.05.04)
