International squad
A couple of surprises in
Spain's 19 man squad to play Italy next week, Iñaki Sáez calling
up the uncapped Luis García and bringing back Manuel Pablo for his first
appearance since recovering from a long injury. Raúl Bravo and Xavi also
get recalls, and Gabri, Guti, Luque and Salva are all dropped for varying
reasons. There is still no place for Joaquín, Reyes or Mista, and the
manager gave no indication which of the three young keepers, Arranzubia, Reina
or Valdés, will be chosen to complete the Euro 2004 line up. The full
squad is as follows: (22.04.04)
Goalkeepers: Casillas
(Real Madrid), Cañizares (Valencia); Defenders: Puyol
(Barcelona), Manuel Pablo (Deportivo), Iván Helguera, Michel Salgado and
Raúl Bravo (Real Madrid), Marchena (Valencia); Midfielders:
Etxeberría (Athletic Bilbao), Luis García and Xavi
(Barcelona), Valerón (Deportivo), Xabi Alonso (Real Sociedad), Albelda,
Baraja and Vicente (Valencia); Forwards: Fernando Torres
(Atlético Madrid), Morientes (Monaco), Raúl (Real Madrid).
PS. César
(Deportivo), Juanito and Joaquín (both Betis) were called up late on to
replace Puyol, Marchena and Luis García, all of whom are injured.
