Second
division, week 26
Sporting Gijon stay
three points clear at the top of the table despite a 4-1 defeat at the hands of
Córdoba. Nico Olivera's first half penalty ended keeper Roberto's
830 minute run without letting in a goal, and the Asturians ended the match
with nine men after two players were sent off. Earlier in the day second placed
Levante failed to take advantage when they were held to a 0-0 draw by
Ciudad Murcia, and fourth and fifth placed sides Alavés
and Getafe were unable to play their game due to the heavy snowfall in
the North of Spain this weekend.
Rayo Vallecano
climbed out of the relegation zone with a 2-0 victory over Cádiz,
their second win in a row under new manager Txetxu Rojo. Biagini and Azkoitia
got the goals late in the first half. Rayo's place in the bottom four was taken
by Leganés, who lost 2-1 at Poli Ejido. The bottom two,
Algeciras and Málaga B, did themselves no favours with a
0-0 draw, local striker Armentano missing a twice taken penalty. (29.02.04)
Numancia consolidated
their third spot in the league with a 0-1 win at Xerez, their second
victory in a row. The only goal came from an Antonio header late in the first
half. Eibar lost ground on the leading group after they were beaten 1-0
by a Las Palmas side who move up safely to midtable after their third
win in four games. A 1-0 scoreline as well between Recreativo and
Almería, where a late Raúl Molina goal saved the locals
from yet another goal-less draw. The other two games on Saturday evening ended
all square, Salamanca and Tenerife drawing 2-2 after the lead
changed hands twice and Terrassa and Elche finishing 1-1.
