It was not all joy for Spain though on Wednesday night. Whilst the full international team were qualifying for Euro 2004, their under 21 side were knocked out of their European competition by Sweden and will therefore miss out on the Olympic games. The youngsters needed to pull back a two goal deficit from the first leg, and seemed to be well on the way when Rubén Castro turned in Riera's cross midway through the first half. But once again they failed to take their chances, and substitute Hysen equalised twenty minutes from the end to put the tie beyond their reach. To add insult to injury, Arteta got himself sent off near the end as nerves frayed and players got involved in petty brawls. (19.11.03)
