UEFA cup,
first round second leg
All four Spanish teams won
their way through to the second round on a high scoring night.
Villarreal were the first side to kick off, and they had to score at
Trabzonspor after a 0-0 first leg. And after a goalless first half they
seemed to be safely home when half time substitute Sonny Anderson and
José Marí put them two up. But goals from Goldenik and Tekke in
the last quarter of an hour made it all square, and there were a nervous few
moments before José Marí scored a late winner for a 2-3 final
scoreline.
The biggest score of the
night though was at a rainy Nou Camp, where Barcelona beat Slovakia's
Puchov 8-0. Once again the star was Ronaldinho, who hit a hat-trick in
the first hour of the game to make it six for the season. Motta scored from a
well struck free kick in between, and Ronaldinho set up Luis Enrique for a
fifth before being rested. His substitute Iniesta promptly set up Saviola for
his first goal of the campaign, and Luis Enrique and Saviola both got their
second of the night later on to complete the rout.
Luis Aragonés
returned to Mallorca to take over from Jaime Pacheco, and saw his side
come from behind to beat Apoel Nicosia 4-2. There was some concern when
Okkarides put the visitors ahead early on, but Samuel Eto'o hit a hat-trick in
just over half an hour to turn the scoreline around. Substitute Correa made it
four two minutes from the end before Amanatidis got a late consolation for the
Cypriots.
The last game of the evening
saw Valencia repeat their first leg score of 1-0 to beat Sweden's AIK
Solna. It was their usual workmanlike display, with the only goal coming
from the head of Mista only a few minutes after he came on as substitute in the
second half. (15.10.03) |
