Villarreal won their Intertoto cup final against Heereveen and qualify for the UEFA cup for the first time in their 80 year history. Defending a 1-2 lead from the first leg, Benito Floro's side were content to sit back and let their opponents come at them. But the Dutch side were unable to create any real danger, and when they did get near goal, keeper Reina was in confident form. José Marí came close to giving the Spaniards the lead with a shot just past the post, but in the end a scoreless draw was more than enough to send the fans home happy. (26.08.03)
