World Cup, quarter-final
Spain 5 -
Portugal 2
Spain took their revenge on
European champions Portugal with a 5-2 victory that takes them through to a
semi-final with Argentina in Helsinki next Wednesday. For a few minutes it
looked as if their neighbours were going to repeat last May's final when Curto
headed them into the lead. But by half time Spain were ahead with strikes from
Sergio Sánchez and Cesc Fábregas, and Xisco made it three five
minutes in to the second half. Fábregas added a fourth ten minutes from
the end, and although Vieira pulled one back, Jurado wrapped things up from the
penalty spot in injury time. (24.08.03) |
