Intertoto
Cup - third round, second leg
Slovan
Liberec 2 - Racing Santander 1
Racing Santander
dropped out of the Intertoto cup after losing 2-1 at Slovan Liberec.
Already trailing from the first leg, the Cantabrians went further behind when
Kolousek ran through the defence to chip keeper Borja late in the first half.
Txiki gave them hope when he ran on to Benayoun's back-heel to score after the
break, but Matabuena got himself sent off later on and Zapotocny headed the
winner soon afterwards. Racing ended the game with nine men after Txiki picked
up a second yellow card near the end.
Brescia 1
- Villarreal 1
Villarreal qualified
for the semi-finals with relative ease after drawing 1-1 at Brescia.
Defending a two goal lead from the first leg, Benito Floro's side went further
ahead early in the second half when new signing José Marí set up
Guayre to score. The Italians pulled one back in the last minute when Petruzzi
beat López Vallejo following a corner, but by then it was all over. The
Spaniards go on to play Czech side FC Brno in their semi-final, with the first
leg away next Wednesday evening. (26.07.03) |
