A late away goal by young
substitute Jonathan was just enough to see Racing Santander through against
Hungary's Györi ETO. The one goal lead from the first leg was cancelled
out early on when Kartelo beat youth team keeper Trevi, who was making his
debut in place of the injured Borja, and the Hungarians went close to extending
their lead before the break.
Racing came back in the
second half and Txiki and Matabuena both tested Sebok in the local goal, but
Bajevski put the East Europeans ahead in the tie with a second goal following a
quick attack down the right wing. Manager Nando Yosu brought on youngsters
Jonathan and Nacho with twenty minutes to go though, and it was Jonathan who
proved to be the saviour, heading Matabuena's free kick past Sebok late on to
take his side through on the away goal rule. Racing's opponents in the third
round next week will be the winners of Sunday's tie between Slovan Liberec and
Shamrock Rovers. |
