Abelardo. Powerful header from corner which Córdoba got a hand to.
An injury time goal by
Abelardo saved a draw for Alavés at home to Besiktas. The ex Barcelona
defender powered a header past Oscar Córdoba from a late corner as most
fans had given up hope that they would ever score. The Vitoria based side had
started well, and Iván Alonso hit the post early on. However Besiktas
settled down, and after Ilhan and Pancu had both gone close, Karmona turned the
ball past his own keeper trying to clear Dobra's low cross.
Mané had started off
with an ultra-defensive line up, but midway through the second half he took off
a defender to bring on Jordi Cruyff. Magno burst through the defence but shot
wide soon afterwards, but it was not until almost the last kick of the match
that they managed to break down the Turkish defence. Alavés now have a
tricky visit to Istanbul in a fortnight's time as they try to repeat their
successes of two seasons ago. |
