Alavés had no
problems following up their away victory in Ankara with a comfortable home win
in the second leg. With a match coming up against Real Madrid at the weekend
Mané made a few changes, giving a run out to young defender Ochoa and
bringing on Luis Helguera after the break for his first appearance with his new
club.
Alavés had not won at
home all season, but they got off to a good start when an improving Ilie hit
the post and Iván Alonso beat Zafer on the follow up. That virtually put
an end to any aspirations the Turkish side may have had, and their first shot
at goal didn't come until early in the second half.
Four minutes after the
restart the Spaniards went further ahead when Turiel caught Baidoo trying to
dribble out of his own penalty area, and ran on to shoot low past the keeper.
It was a rare goal from the ex Valladolid midfielder, but he was to add another
later in the half, heading home a cross from Ibon Begoña on the far
post. A 5-1 aggregate score, and their new European campaign is off to a good
start. |
