McCarthy. Connected with Gustavo López cross to beat Zaza with header.
Two late goals from Catanha
and Benni McCarthy gave Celta a good lead to take into the second leg in two
weeks' time. The Vigo based side were disappointing in the first half, and
apart from a brief onslaught in the first two minutes and a Mostovoi shot which
tested Moroccan keeper Zaza before half time, they were ably matched by a well
disciplined Danish opponent.
They gradually improved as
the game wore on though, and Jesuli went close with a shot which grazed the
crossbar. With twenty minutes to go Catanha finally got away from his markers
to finish off from Jesuli's cross, and Lotina surprisingly replaced him with
Benni McCarthy almost immediately. However it proved an inspired move, as the
South African striker headed a second only a couple of minutes after coming on.
The rest of the match was a literal wash-out as a heavy rainstorm made creative
play impossible. But Celta had done enough, and should be able to complete the
task in a fortnight's time. |
