Euro 2004
qualifying match
Spain 0 -
Greece 1
Spain fell to their
first home defeat in official competitions for twelve years, losing 0-1 to
Greece, and they miss out on the chance of tie up their qualification
for the finals. Despite dominating the first half Iñaki Sáez's
side fell behind just before half time when Giannokopoulos picked up a pass on
the edge of the area from Veneditis to beat Casillas. Raúl, de Pedro and
Sergio all tried their luck after the break, but even with their opponents down
to ten after Veneditis was sent off they were unable to beat Nikopolidis. Spain
still head the group, but with Ukraine also winning only one point separates
the top three, and a victory against Northern Ireland in Belfast next Wednesday
is now vital. (07.06.03) |
