UEFA -
third round, first leg
Betis 1 -
Auxerre 0
An early Alfonso penalty was
enough to give Betis a 1-0 victory over Auxerre in their first
leg match. The striker scored his sixth of the season after Denilson was
brought down by Radet in the eighth minute, and Víctor's side could have
gone further ahead when Cool saved from Joaquín and Denilson shot just
wide before the break. However the French team came back in the second half,
and only good goalkeeping by Prats kept his side in front.

Málaga 0 - Leeds Utd 0
Málaga were
held to a scoreless draw at home by Leeds United and now have to at
least get a goal in Elland Road in a fortnight's time. With strikers
Darío Silva, Viduka and Fowler all missing, the defences were in
control, and chances were few and far between. Only Smith and Kewell in the
first half and Dely Valdés after the break caused any problems for
Contreras and Robinson, and the English side now look favourites to take the
tie. (28.11.02)
Celtic 1
- Celta Vigo 1
A second half headed goal
from Henrick Larsson gave Celtic a 1-0 victory over Celta and
left the Spaniards with an uphill battle for the second leg. The Swedish
striker was on hand to force the ball over the line after Balde headed back a
corner seven minutes after the restart. Lotina's side hardly troubled Douglas
throughout the match, and the Scots could have increased their lead had Pinto
not saved from Hartson and Larsson later on. (28.11.02) |
