Villarreal have a lot to do
in next Saturday's second leg if they are to progress to the next round of the
Intertoto cup after losing this match in Italy. Víctor Muñoz's
side felt hard done by when the referee waved play on after Delli Carri clearly
handled the ball in the penalty area late in the first half, and only minutes
later they fell behind when slack marking from a free kick let Comotto in to
head past López Vallejo.
Coming just before the break
it was a psychological blow, and they found themselves further behind just
after the restart when half time substitute Somesse took advantage of a mistake
by Quique Alvarez to set up Ferrante for a second. Torino were reduced to ten
men when Comotto got a straight red card on the hour mark, but great
goalkeeping by Bucci and a dreadful miss by Palermo near the end foiled any
attempt at a come back. |
