Valencia got the draw they needed against Ajax to stay alive in the competition, and now need to beat Arsenal in their last match to go through to the quarter finals. Rafa Benítez's side were up against the wall after losing at home to Roma in their last match, but the manager could at least count on a full strength side, with only the injured Fabio Aurelio and the suspended Angulo missing from his full squad.

The game got off to an intense start, with Chivu firing a free kick just wide of the post and Lobont diverting Carew's shot just over the bar after he got free on goal. The Spaniards took the lead though around the half hour mark when Rufete was pulled down by Galasaek in the area, Kily González blasting the resulting penalty past the keeper.

Koeman's side threatened to draw level though later in the half, with a dangerous Ibrahimovic heading just wide and then forcing a reaction save from Cañizares. Van der Vaart shot just over the bar after the restart, and quarter of an hour in to the half Ajax drew level following a corner, Pasanen losing his marker to head Maxwell's cross wide of the keeper.

That woke Valencia up, and Lobont did well to block a strong shot from Baraja. Cañizares had to be at his best though to save another free kick from Chivu, and the visitors can be thankful that Slovakian referee Lubos Michel didn't fall for Trabelsi's exaggerated fall when challenged by Carboni in the penalty area. With Arsenal and Ajax drawing in Highbury, everything now boils down to the last day, and all four sides have a chance of qualifying for the last eight.
