Burriana. Spain cruised to a
comfortable victory against Austria in this European championship qualifying
game to set them up for their crunch match against France in four days time.
With Xavi and Vicente playing for the full international side and Pablo
Couñago suffering from fever, Tenerife's new signing Xisco lead the
attack and Orbaiz and Colsa played in the double pivot role. The game was hard
fought in the opening minutes with Croatian referee Trivkovic showing several
yellow cards. Spain finally broke through shortly before half time with two
goals in four minutes from Colsa, and after they controlled the game until the
final whistle. The bad news were yellow cards for Marchena, Xisco and
Jusué which will keep them out of the game with France. Xavi and Vicente
are expected to return though, and Iñaki Saez may consider calling up
reinforcements in defence, with Spain needing a victory to qualify directly for
the finals. |
