La Condominia stadium,
Murcia. Spain had no trouble qualifying for the final phase of this year's
European championship with a comfortable victory over Macedonia. Coming in to
the game with a 1-3 lead from the first away leg, Iñaki Sáez was
able to try out some of his younger players who were making the leap from the
more junior teams. The fans though came to see the twin strike force of Reyes
(Sevilla) and Fernando Torres (Atlético Madrid), who were playing
together for the first time at this level having already led the attack for the
more senior under 21 side. Torres was actually making his debut for the under
19s, and he showed his class with two goals in a minute in the second half.
Espanyol's Jarque had already given them the lead before the break, and
Bilbao's Jonan got a fourth with his first touch after coming on as substitute.
The final stage will take place in Norway from 21st to 28th July, and the
fixtures will be decided by UEFA in a week's time. |
