Juvenile
cup final
Barcelona won the
final of the juvenile "copa del rey" after coming from behind to beat Mallorca
2-1. Both sides contained members of the Spanish under 19 squad who will be
competing in the European championship next month, and this was a good warm up
match for them.
Mallorca were the
better side early on, and they took the lead when Axel turned in Bussy's cross.
However Alberto Carroza headed an equaliser in the second half, and only a
great save from Moyà prevented Verdú from giving the "azulgrana"
the lead a few minutes later.
Barça were not to be
denied their fifteenth triumph though, and Sergio García beat his under
19 team mate Moyà near the end. Barcelona's Verdú, following in
the footsteps of Guardiola, Xavi, Arteta and Iniesta, won the man of the match
award. (29.06.02) |
