Spain virtually assured
their presence in July's under 19 European championship in Norway with a 1-3
away victory against Macedonia. Having topped their group in the first phase
they were favourites to go through in this qualifying tie, although they were
caught out with just over a quarter of an hour on the clock when Pandev opened
the scoring for the home side. Their lead only lasted a minute though before
Barcelona's Sergio levelled the scores, and when Pandev then got himself sent
off just before half time the game swung in their favour. Bilbao striker Jonan
scored twice in the second half to give Iñaki Sáez's side a two
goal cushion for the second leg, which will be played in Murcia on 22nd May.
