European Nations Cup 2004
draw
Once again Spain came out
well from the draw for the qualifying groups of the 2004 European championship,
which is to be held in neighbouring Portugal. José Antonio Camacho's
side were in the group of top seeds, and were paired in group six together with
Ukraine, Greece, Northern Ireland and Armenia. Ukraine are considered the most
dangerous opponents with such players as Shevchenko and Rebrov in their side,
although Greece are no pushover as they demonstrated against England. Northern
Ireland can also be difficult on their day, although Spain did beat them easily
in their encounter during their build up to the last World Cup, and Armenia did
give them some problems back in 1995 when they met for the only time in the
qualifying round for the 1996 championship. However Spain must be considered
one of the top favourites to win the competition when it begins in September
this year. (25.01.02) |
