Lausanne (Switzerland). Spain qualified for the intermediate round of the European championships with a comfortable victory over Switzerland. Barcelona's Sergio opened the scoring for Juan Santiesteban's side from a pass by Zaragoza's Peña in the twelfth minute, and Bilbao's Murillo added a second before half time. Blunschi pulled one back for the Swiss, the first goal that Spain had conceded in their four games, but another Bilbao player Jonan scored the third with a shot into the top corner of the net near the end. Spain ended the mini-group stage with four wins out of four, and go on to play Macedonia in April/May next year for a place in the final stage, which will take place in Norway. (07.11.01)
