Second division - day
10
Atlético
Madrid moved a point clear at the top of the second division with a 1-2
victory at Numancia. Pacheta almost gave the home side the lead with a
shot against the post, but soon afterwards Diego Alonso put the visitors into
the lead from a Stankovic corner. Numancia were reduced to ten men a quarter of
an hour from the end when Iñaki was given a direct red card, and
Aguilera got Atlético's second a few minutes later. Andrés Armada
got a consolation goal for the home side at the end to leave his side in the
middle of the table.
Oviedo moved up to
second place with a 0-2 victory at Recreativo. Both goals came in the
second half, with Rubén heading the first and Oscar Pérez getting
the second near the end. The Asturian side, who have only let in three goals in
their ten games, go ahead of Xerez who lost 2-0 to Eibar. Ex Real
Sociedad striker Aldeondo got the first goal for the Basque side and set up the
second for Jorge Sánchez in a five minute period before the break.
Salamanca lost an
opportunity to close up on the top spots when they were held to a 0-0 draw by
Extremadura. They stay in sixth place, level with Recreativo and
Albacete, who moved up the table after a narrow 1-0 victory over
Murcia. Jesús Pereda headed the only goal of the game in the
second half from a corner.
Bottom club Poli
Ejido got their first victory of the season to send their opponents
Badajoz down to last spot. A goal from Juan Jesús a quarter of an
hour from the end was enough to give them a 0-1 victory against the side from
Extremadura, who changed their owners and their manager during the week. Ejido
move above Nástic, who came from behind to draw 1-1 at
Sporting Gijon, with Herrero equalising an earlier goal from Villa.
Levante are only a point above Ejido after drawing 1-1 with Racing
Santander. Sierra got Racing's first away goal of the season early on, but
Josemi equalised from the penalty spot, and the visitors ended the day with ten
men after Juanma got himself sent off. (21.10.01)
Racing Ferrol lost
out on the chance to go top of the table after losing at home 0-1 to
Jaén. The only goal of the game came from a Chico header ten
minutes in to the second half, and the result saves the head of their manager
Francisco López, criticised by local fans after the Andalucian club had
dropped to within a place of the relegation zone.
Burgos draw level
with Ferrol on 17 points after drawing 0-0 away at Leganés. The
only incident worthy of comment in the match was the sending off of local
manager Cano, who was shown two yellow cards by the referee near the end.
Córdoba moved
back up the table after a couple of disappointing results with a good 3-0
victory over Elche. Their first two goals came from Nigeria's Lawal, on
loan from Atlético Madrid, with a third by Brazilian Whelliton near the
end. Both teams ended the day in the middle of the table on 14 points.
