Spain got off to a good start in the first match of the qualifying phase for next year's European championship, beating Switzerland at the Isidro Calderón stadium in Monzón. The new Las Palmas star Carmelo opened the scoring in the first half, with Barcelona striker Sergio making it two near the end after Espanyol's Corominas set him up. (03.10.01)
