Second division - day
8
Defeats for the top two
meant that Oviedo hold on to top spot at the end of the weekend. Leaders
Burgos were beaten 1-0 by Eibar, with Kortina scoring the only
goal a quarter of an hour from time. Oviedo stay ahead of them on goal average,
and a point ahead of Atlético Madrid who lost 2-1 to Sporting
Gijon. Correa gave Atlético the lead in the first half, but Lozano
equalised after the break and Ledhiakov got the winner in injury time. Xerez
move just behind Atlético on goal average after their victory the day
before.
Racing Santander sank
back into the relegation zone after losing to their namesake Racing
Ferrol by 2-0. Their new technical director Quique Setién took over
as caretaker manager from Gustavo Benítez, who was sacked midweek after
their poor start to the season. It did them little good though as they fell to
goals from Manel and Burlé, and Ferrol rise up to fifth in the league
with a game in hand over all their rivals. Salamanca are a point behind
them after a thrilling 3-3 draw against another of the teams in the bottom
spots, Gimnastic Tarragona. After leading with an early Marinescu goal,
they found themselves behind as Deus and then Pinilla scored. Pinilla made it
three for Nástic from the penalty spot before the interval, but second
half goals from Makukula and then Nan Ribera in injury time salvaged a point.
Recreativo moved back
to the top half of the table with a 1-0 victory over bottom club Poli
Ejido, who have yet to win a game. The only goal came from Raúl
Molina in the eighth minute. They draw level with Albacete, who were
held to a 0-0 draw by Córdoba, themselves in a group of four
teams a point behind their opponents. Murcia head that group on goal
average after drawing 1-1 at struggling Badajoz, Loreto giving them the
lead before Marín scored what was only their rivals' second goal of the
season. Elche are just behind Murcia after they too drew 1-1, coming
from behind at Numancia. A late Nino goal saved them a point after Rosu
had given the home side the lead from the penalty spot in the second half.
Finally Leganés complete the group on eleven points after their
second victory of the season, beating Extremadura 2-0 with goals from
Oscar and Arnal. (07.10.01)
Oviedo inched to the
top of the table pending Sunday's games with their second score-less draw in a
row, this time at struggling Levante. Oviedo's Oli was sent off 20
minutes from the end. In the other game played on Saturday, Xerez moved
back into contention after beating Jaén 0-2 away in a local
derby. Mena scored early on for the visitors and Pereira got the second in
injury time. (06.10.01) |
