named a smaller than expected 19 man squad for the double header World Cup 2002
qualifying matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina and Israel next week. Deportivo's
Diego Tristán has been called up for the first time after his recent run
of excellent form, and his teammate Valerón returns to the side for the
first time since the Euro 2000 tournament. Also recalled to the side are Luis
Enrique, Javi Moreno and Juanfran, with Paco, Sergio, José Mari and
Tamudo dropping out and Vicente returning to the under 21 squad. There was no
place either for Guti, who had been tipped to return. The full list is as
