Champions League second
league phase day 6
Anderlecht 2 - Real
Madrid 0 Two late goals by Dindane and Goor for Anderlecht gave a
depleted Real Madrid their first defeat in the second phase of the
Champions league. With Madrid already proclaimed group champions, Del Bosque
made five changes from his usual line-up. (14.03.01)
Milan 1 - Deportivo 1
Deportivo got the point they needed to qualify for the quarter
finals in a physical game against AC Milan. Both goals came from
penalties, with referee Hugh Dallas awarding one to Depor fifteen minutes from
time which Djalminha converted, and then inventing another four minutes from
the end for Shevchenko to score. Galatasaray's defeat means Depor end the
second phase as champions of their group.
Valencia 2 -
Panathinaikos 1 Valencia made it three out of three for Spanish
teams, joining Real Madrid and Deportivo as winners of their group after
beating Panathinaikos. That means that the three avoid each other at the
quarter final stage, and sets up a possible repeat of last season's feat of
getting three clubs into the last four. They did make it hard on themselves
though, falling behind to a Basinas penalty before Juan Sánchez and
Angloma gave them the victory. (13.03.01)
