Sturm Graz 0 - Valencia
5 Valencia cruised through to the next round with a five goal
victory against Sturm Graz. Ayala headed the first goal early on, and
four more came in the second half from Carew, Kily González, and two in
the last three minutes from substitute Diego Alonso. A victory next week
against Panathinaikos would give them the leadership of the group.
Deportivo 4 - PSG
3 The comeback of the year from Deportivo, who beat Paris
Saint Germain 4-3 after falling three goals behind early in the second
half. Okocha and Leroy (2) had given the French the lead, but a hat-trick from
Pandiani and another goal from Diego Tristán, all from headers, turned
the result around in spectacular fashion. Deportivo are now second, but still
need to draw at least against Milan next Tuesday to reach the quarter finals.

Real Madrid 3 - Leeds
United 2 Real Madrid made sure of first place in their group with
a victory over Leeds United. Smith scored early on but Raúl
equalised a minute later, the referee failing to spot that he had knocked the
ball in with his hand. Figo gave Madrid the lead before half time, and although
Viduka levelled the scores in the second half, Raúl struck again to give
his side the victory. (06.03.01) |
