A late own goal by Wes
Brown salvaged an important point for Valencia against Manchester
United. Both teams repeated the starting line ups from last week, with
Pablo Aimar once again in Héctor Cúper's side. Andy Cole opened
the scoring for Manchester early in the first half after a passing move with
Ryan Giggs.
Deportivo beat ten
man Galatasaray 2-0 to give themselves an outside chance of qualifying
for the quarter finals. Víctor got his third goal in four days before
half time and Djalminha added the second from the penalty spot in the second
half after referee Helmut Stampe controversially penalized Ahmet for handling
the ball. Earlier Galatasay's Vedat had been sent off for a second bookable
offence. (20.02.01)
Real Madrid came back
from behind twice to draw 2-2 at Lazio and book their place in the
quarter finals. The Italians scored in the third minute through Nedved, but
Solari made it all square on the half hour with his first official goal for his
club. Crespo restored the lead for Lazio after half time, but a headed goal
from Raúl twenty minutes from the end meant the points were shared. With
Leeds winning at Anderlecht both they and Real Madrid are already qualified for
the next stage. (21.02.01) |
