Barcelona were humiliated
by Zaragoza in a match which could be the last for manager Serra Ferrer.
Defensive errors allowed the home side to score through Lanna, Jamelli and
José Ignacio before Gerard got a consolation goal in the last minute.
Rayo Vallecano moved up to fourth with a 4-2 victory over Málaga. Goals
by Bolo, Bolic, Bravo (own goal) and Bartelt, with Zárate and Agostinho
replying for the visitors. There were two 4-1 victories as well, with Oviedo
keeping up their unbeaten home record to move sixth with goals by Oli, Reyes,
Losada and Möller, with Pachón getting a late consolation for
Valladolid, and Real Sociedad beating Numancia by the same score with a brace
from Jankauskas as well as two others by De Paula and Idiakez against a sole
strike by Ojeda. Espanyol kept up their good home form thanks to a late Sergio
header after Etxeberria had equalised an earlier goal by Pochettino, and nine
man Celta threw away a one goal lead (Gustavo López) with a last minute
own goal by Cáceres. (19.11.00)
Sevilla beat Betis 1-3 in
the city derby to hold on to second place in the second division, ahead of
Córdoba on goal average after they won against Extremadura 2-0.
Salamanca rise up to fourth with a 0-1 victory at Ferrol after none of the
teams above them won. The matches between Jaén and Leganés,

Valencia and Deportivo La
Coruña kept up their fight at the top of the first division after both
drew away on Saturday night. Deportivo scored through Scaloni after only 16
seconds in their match against Osasuna, but Cruchaga levelled the scores at 1-1
some fifteen minutes later. Valencia were behind to an Iván Alonso
header in their game at Alavés, but Carew got another late goal to
salvage a point and stay ahead of Depor on goal average. Real Madrid moved to
within a point of both of them with an unconvincing 0-1 away win against
Villarreal. The only goal came in the second half when Amor deflected
McManaman's cross past his own keeper. In the last game of the day, Las Palmas
ended Mallorca's four match winning run with a 1-0 victory.
