Atlético Madrid
(1) 3 - Granada (0) 1
Atlético Madrid are
the first team through to the semi-final of the cup after defeating second
division B side Granada 3-1 in Madrid in the second leg on Tuesday night. With
a one goal lead from the first leg, Juande Ramos rested eight of the players
who started the last league match, giving his new signing from Benfica, Dani,
his first start. The Portuguese striker was the man of the match, scoring a
goal early in the second half, winning a penalty against ex Athletic Bilbao
defender Tabuenka which Salva converted for Atlético's third, and
hitting the bar with another effort in between. Salva opened the scoring for
the home side with a well placed header from Luque's cross on the half hour
mark. Earlier Lawal had hit the post for Atleti, but Huegen almost equalised
before half time with a shot against the crossbar. But Atlético
dominated for almost all of the second half, up until the third goal when they
relaxed and allowed the second division B side to come forward. Puntas got one
back fifteen minutes before time after good work by his strike partner Nacho
Sierra, and Pascual almost made it two, but by then it was all over.
Atlético Madrid are in line for their third cup final in a row, hoping
to become the first second division side to do so since Castilla, Real Madrid's
B side, lost to their own first team in 1980. Salva's two goals make him the
competitions leading scorer with six. |
