European Super Cup 2000/2001

The European Super Cup was played over one leg in Monaco on 25 August.

Real Madrid 1 - 2 Galatasaray
Real Madrid failed to win the European Super Cup after losing to UEFA cup champions Galatasaray after extra time. Jardel opened the scoring for the Turkish side five minutes before half time from the penalty spot after Iván Campo brought down Unsal. Referee Gunter Benko awarded a second penalty in the second half for a hand ball by Suat, which Raúl converted. However Jardel scored the winning "golden goal" eleven minutes into the first period of extra time.
